Exciting things are happening in the sleepy town of Loudon, Tennessee (pop. approx. 4,500).
According to Rick Dover, General Manager of Family Pride Corporation of Knoxville, a new waterfront community is coming to Watts Bar Lake in historic Loudon.
“Lakeside Village will offer forty-seven new cottages of three bedrooms and three full baths within a master planned neighborhood featuring extensive walking trails, mature trees, a beautiful village green, white picket fences and flowing gardens all in a protected maintenance-free grounds waterfront community,” said Dover.
Conveniently located, Lakeside Village is within walking distance to the parks, restaurants and shopping in historic Loudon. Residents can stroll over to the historic Lyric Theatre, Loudon Mercantile, Mark & Tina’s Diner, Tic Toc Ice Cream Parlor, Greer’s Furniture and a variety of other quaint places. It is also just a fifteen-minute drive to Farragut, West Knoxville and Turkey Creek, where you’ll find world-class shopping and eating venues. Homeowners will enjoy all the security and nostalgia of small town America and still be able to take advantage of some of the best big city amenities available.
All the homes at Lakeside Village will feature high-end finishes such as granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, crown moulding and a choice of flooring options. Here you’ll find traditional styling, shady porches - front and back, and the latest innovations in energy efficiency and high-speed Internet connections.
These maintenance-free cottages will have access to a dock facility with 1,000 feet of water frontage. Laid out in a classic urban grid, Lakeside Village is designed to promote pedestrianism, front porch living and neighborhood interaction.
“For many years now, Loudon has really been in moth balls,” said Dover. “This is a charming little town with all the key ingredients to make it great place to live. We plan to take what’s good about the area and build on it.”
Lakeside Village will fit in nicely with the casual pace that Loudon offers. The town is filled with historical connections that continue to be uncovered.
According to Goodspeed’s History of Loudon County, “Previous to the completion of the railroad to that point Loudon was known as Blair’s Ferry, and consisted only of a steamboat landing, a store, and a few houses. The first steamboat to pass up the river was the ‘Atlas,’ which in 1828 ran up as far as the junction of the French Broad and Holston. It was not until about 1835, however, that steamboats began plying regularly.”
“In 1851, Wiley Blair laid off a town covering a portion of the present site of Loudon, and named it Blairsville,” Goodspeed continues. “He failed to sell any lots and the next year S. M. Johnson & Co., having bought the land, had the town re-surveyed, and named it Loudon. For the next four years it was the terminus of the railroad, and its growth was rapid. Produce in large quantities was brought from various points on the river and transferred to the railroad, and it is said that steamboats were frequently compelled to lay several days waiting their turn to discharge their cargoes.”
Lakeside Village will be a wonderful addition to Loudon’s proud history. Pre-construction pricing is in effect for the first eleven homes starting at $259,900.
