Cook's Corner

- by Kristen Ferguson

Are you in need of a fish spatula, an egg cuber, or another exclusive kitchen gadget?  If so, The Cook’s Corner, located in Turkey Creek, is likely to have just what you are seeking.  Carolyn McLain, manager of The Cook’s Corner, won’t hesitate to tell you with a sly grin, “You should look here first!”

Though The Cook’s Corner has only been in Turkey Creek since July 2005, the Rowe family-owned business has been in Knoxville for over 15 years.  Originally a part of The Rolling Pin franchise, the Rowes’ first shops were located in both Knoxville Center and West Town Mall. After buying out of the franchise, The Cook’s Corner was born.  When the opportunity to relocate to Turkey Creek arose, Tommy Rowe, the family’s chief operator, knew the move would be worthwhile for business.  And so it was!  McLain says the employees pride themselves on individual attention, often grouping their ideas and opinions when a customer has a difficult decision to make.  “Sure” quips McLain, “the next thing you know we’re all involved in what’s going on!”

The Cook’s Corner is a charming and welcoming shop; its Tuscan atmosphere and mouth-watering aroma remind you of what a kitchen should look like – warm, inviting, and overflowing with tools an accomplished chef employs.  Inside the store, you will find every tool, gadget and accessory needed in a well-stocked kitchen.  When asked what one item must be in everyone’s kitchen, McLain will give you an honest opinion: “I personally think you need one of everything!”  One of everything would be nice, but how about over 200 of a single item?  If you need cookie cutters, The Cook’s Corner is the place to shop.  Along the walls hang more than 200 cookie cutters representing a multitude of categories:  numbers, letters, holidays, animals, cartoon characters, babies, occupations, fruits and vegetables, music, nature, and sports, just to name a few.  However, according to McLain, stocking only 200 shapes means the store is not even full.  “We usually have closer to 500, but I am out of a few,” she says.

Along with the traditional kitchenware, The Cook’s Corner boasts many kitchen-related luxuries not easily located around town.  Some of the most noteworthy are the stadium-shaped pie pan, the Tennessee orange teapot, and, of course, the aforementioned fish spatula and egg cuber.  In addition to cookware and accessories, The Cook’s Corner also sells a variety of unique food items such as fresh coffee and tea, mango salsa, 18-year-old Balsamic vinegar, and Brazilian sea salt.  Furthermore, if for some reason Carolyn and the team do not have what you need in stock, they will go out of their way to find and order it just for you.  And they do so with a smile on their face and a kind word as you come and go.

Stop by the Cook’s Corner for all your kitchen and culinary needs.  And don’t forget the fish spatula!

The Cook’s Corner is located at 10901 Parkside Drive in Turkey Creek (across from Wal-Mart).  Their hours are Monday-Thursday 10am-8pm, Saturday 10am-9pm and Sunday 12pm-6pm.  For more information, call 865-675-5885.
