Technician and Superior Carpet & Rug Cleaning owner, Kerry McDuffie, has been offering area residents and businesses the highest level of quality carpet, rug and upholstery cleaning available. In addition to these services, Superior also provides carpet repair, carpet and fabric protectors, pet odor and stain removal, water damage restoration, tile and grout cleaning and mattress cleaning. But what you may not know is that Superior also features in-plant cleaning for most oriental types of rugs up to 12’ by 16’.

What I discovered when visiting Superior was a modern, up-to-date facility that exceeded my expectations. Upon my arrival, Kerry and technician assistant, Eugene, were preparing to clean a large oriental rug that had recently been picked up from a customer’s home. Following is what I observed.
• The rug was thoroughly inspected and its condition noted.

• The rug was placed upside down on a special metal grid that would permit loose soil to fall free when Eugene operated a device called a “badger” over the rug. The “badger” vibrated the rug freeing debris.
• The rug was placed in a dry submersion pit where a dye setting treatment was applied to prevent rug die bleeding.
• The rug was next pretreated with a special conditioner and agitated to help suspend soil prior to extraction.
• The submersion pit was next filled with clean, softened water while a second presoak conditioner and surfactant were applied. The surfactant helps to loosen oils trapped in the rug. The conditioner and surfactant are worked into the rug with the aid of a scrubber which also applied a specially formulated cleaning solution.
• The water in the submersion pit which holds most of the dirt and oils in suspension was removed from the pit while the rug was continually being flushed to remove any remaining residue.

• Residual water was removed from the rug’s front and back surfaces by vacuum and a neutralizing agent which helps to balance the rug’s pH was applied.
• The rug was removed from the pit with the aid of a dolly and wheeled to a temperature and humidity controlled drying room.
• The rug was then placed on a drying bar which was automatically raised to allow the rug to dry while dehumidified air was circulated throughout the room.

• Next the rug was hand brushed to reset the pile
• After drying, the rug was then placed on a fringe table located in the drying room where the fringe was cleaned a second time to remove any remaining residue.
• Finally the rug was wrapped and returned to the customer.
The first impression I was left with was, “don’t try this at home”.
What I observed was a bright, vibrant oriental rug in like-new condition. I only wish I could have seen the expression on the customer’s face when the rug was delivered.
Additional services are also available including Fabric Protection and the availability of two high quality pads for both smooth surfaces and carpets which provide a “rich” cushioned feel and help to prevent the rugs from sliding and guards against abrasion.
No matter which service Superior Carpet & Rug Cleaning provides for your home or office, you’re assured to receive the very best in both quality and service that is available only from seasoned professionals.
